Overview

The Construction Management Certificate is focused towards those individuals already working with the construction field that want to acquire the managerial skills required for construction project supervision and leadership. Students take a blend of courses from the Construction Technology, Information Technology, and Business concentration areas to develop skills related to building code regulation, scheduling, project management, safety, estimating, and environmental impact. The proficiencies developed are applicable to home builders & remodelers, as well as small-scale and large-scale commercial construction projects.

Although various concepts and theories are covered to provide a conceptual framework for management and supervision, the emphasis will be on the practical experiences of supervisors. Prerequisite: None Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer ACC100 Survey of Accounting Students will be exposed to an overview of accounting and its role in business and society with a focus on the accounting equation, chart of accounts, transaction analysis, financial statement preparation and analysis, business structures, accrual basis of accounting, and internal controls. Evaluate the purpose, role and responsibilities of a construction project.
Demonstrate mathematical skills and critical thinking in solving basic construction problems.
Describe the key duties, responsibilities and challenges of a construction supervisor.
Recognize the dynamics of teams as they relate to supervisory management.
Explain how building codes are adopted and enforced and discuss how the codes relate to the performance of a structure.
Identify the difference between prescriptive and performance based codes and standards.
Explain advantages and disadvantages of multiple estimating methods. Elicit and utilize pertinent information from drawings and specifications. Identify the sources of pricing information.
Organize and estimate labor and material costs for each phase of a construction project and calculate overhead and prepare a complete job take off and bid.
